We won’t be having practice tonight! Everyone deserves a break after the hard work of the past few weeks. I’ll be getting our times from the meet put into a Google Docs spreadsheet and linked to from the blog, so keep your eyes out for it!
In other news, we have a community service opportunity coming up! Represent the Swim Club by coming to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank in Waterloo this Saturday. We’ll work out the details more this week, but keep an eye out for emails about the event. Kristi has already sent one out, and if you have any questions, feel free to comment here or send Kristi Philips an email.
Our morning practices have migrated for the winter. Our practice schedule is now:
Monday-Friday: 6:30pm-7:30pm
No more early mornings. See you all tomorrow!
We may have a change in our practice schedule. As our number of morning attendants has slowly decreased over the past few weeks, it has become apparent that 6:00am isn’t the best time for college students to be up and about. The aquatics coordinator at the WRC pool is checking into changing our practice schedule to 6:30pm-7:30pm, Monday through Friday. Hopefully this change doesn’t negatively affect more people than it helps. Any feedback is welcome in the comments!
If you’re having trouble with the butterfly, you could also try it this way:
Actually, his technique isn’t too bad…
Quite a few people have been getting cramps during practice lately. If you have been cramping up, make sure you stay well hydrated and get plenty of potassium and sodium. Eat a banana each day, and throw an extra shake of salt on your food. If you’re looking for something to snack on, find something salty like pretzels, chex mix, or salted peanuts.
Like yesterday morning’s practice, tonight’s practice will be about 40 minutes of intense workout followed by 20 minutes of butterfly work. Check out the video posted yesterday for an idea of how to better your butterfly stroke!
Remember, it’s all in the hips.
We spent this morning working on Butterfly stroke drills. This video might help to give a better idea of what it looks like. The music is kind of lame, and it’s a little hard to hear, but it’s a good visual.
We have 9 more days of practice for the upcoming October 4th meet. Sarah will have sign-up sheets ready and waiting from now until Friday, October 2nd for people to sign up for the events of their choice.
A few things about the meet…
That’s all for today. See you at tonight’s practice!
